About Us

At present, Auto-E is the leading company in developing controllers for all types of EV charging stations.

Besides, we are the only company that pre-installs seven-meter charging cables and can guarantee the safety of their use. This means a singular charging station with four cables is able to cover up to eight parking spots and make the charging process comfortable and convenient. If you compare our charging stations to any others without a pre-installed cable, you will realise the huge difference. To clarify, two metres of your own charging cable is not enough to reach the station situated next to the parking slot.

Only our controllers have a pre-installed function to recognise a connected car. This significantly shortens the time it takes to connect to the station. In other words, this provides a function of PLUG & GO. At the same time, the function allows us to detect a car that had possibly been stolen and let its owner know of its current location. All of our clients hold a very high opinion of the PLUG & GO function, and can't imagine how to charge their car otherwise. They give full priority to the use of our stations due to its unique functions that ensure great convenience and speed-connection.

Our history on the EV charging market

The roots of our company lies at the foundation of KB(m-service) company that was developing “trip-computers” for auto rallies more than twenty years ago. They used to produce control systems for sunflower oil production, polyethylene filament production control systems, and guaranteed power systems for mobile operators Nokia and Siemens.

The company’s EV ideas were realized over six years ago by an entrepreneur from Ukraine, who saw the future in electric cars. He arranged on-call EV charging. Due to the lack of electric vehicles on the market, he brought and imported a few from the USA. Then, he released them on the Ukranian market as Taxi cars.

To charge an electric car, the driver made a telephone call and informed the operator of the numbers of his car and the station. The operator remotely granted access to start and finish the charging.

This idea was picked up by a microchip engineer from the KB(m-service) company, who then developed the first controller that connected to a server through a SIM-card. This marked the beginning of the first fully automatic charging stations. Later, this engineering company became an engineering team in Auto-E.

Firstly, we bought around 200 DC stations with 40 kW of power on the Chinese market. Having inspected them thoroughly, we understood they would not have lasted a week. Besides, they were highly unsafe to use.

During these six years, we have fully reconstructed the Chinese stations with our own machinery and controllers and further reconstructed AC/DC power modules. This minimised the possibility of a breakdown to 5%. Nowadays, we offer help to all companies who have bought charging stations on the Chinese market and help them reconstruct them.

Our experience on the EV charging market

Over the six years since our foundation, we installed over 2,200 charging stations and sold over ten millions kW of electric energy in Ukraine only. Most of these stations was installed last year, when the market acknowledged the advantages of going green. As a result, the demand for charging stations increased drastically.

Our charging stations are presented in many countries all over the word under different brand names. For example, in the USA and Israel our stations are called “Blink”. In the UK, our stations are branded “Auto-E” and are released on the market by the London Engineers Company (LEC).

Over the last two years, LEC has been involved in the development and installation of the electric stations in Ukraine, Poland, and the UK. LEC contributed to the development with many valuable technological ideas. Today these ideas are an inherent part of the Auto-E innovations. For example, the Smart Grid control system, which prevents the power grid from overloading. The Smart Grid is released in the UK as “E-telemetry”, which allows it to conduct full testing for the connections of a charging point in the future. Besides, it enables to calculate the amount of power it will be able to consume. In some cases, E-telemetry could be built into a charging point for a real-time free power control (Smart Grid Control).

Current state and future plans in EV charging

We produce all our charging stations in-house. Besides, we do not use any third-party operating systems (Linux, Windows, or Android), unlike our competitors do. This means they do not hold complete control over their controllers, which is especially dangerous in case of base operating system errors. On the contrary, we develop our controllers from scratch, without any base operating system. This enables us to have access to the microprocessors’ systems inside the controller. We have developed a modem that holds constant connection with ten of our servers, hosted in different countries.

Currently, our controllers test the stations on all the parameters and report all the collected data to the servers. This cycle repeats every twenty seconds. To clarify, this way we ensure the maximum efficiency of our stations. Moreover, this also ensures safety for the people who use it.

We have developed our own DC-controllers CHAdeMO and CCS, which are currently being produced. We have built our own AC/DC modules (the main block of the supercharge station) as well. Today, we are developing our own electric tractors and start working over the DC/AC power modules that would allow installing solar panels on our charging stations.

At the same time, we are currently negotiating about new batteries purchase, and evaluating whether it is possible to use second-hand batteries from the old EV-vehicles to create city power banks to store unused energy from the night and give it out during the day.

At last, we are in progress developing of our charging ‘hub’ that would be able to get power directly from the power grid of 6,000V.

Current and anticipated geographic scope

Today, we are a company with six years of experience in how to model, install, control, support and map charging points.

We cover all of Ukraine with our charging points, having installed over 2200 of our stations. Our customers pay us back with their loyalty because we provide them with true 24/7 multilingual support. Our customers’ calls are answered by an operator within three to five minutes. We plan our UK support services to operate within a month.

Now we are rapidly expanding ourselves onto the world market. Our servers used to control our stations are located all over the EU, America, the UK, and Ukraine.

It’s been over two years since we installed our first charging stations in the USA, and over a year in Poland and Israel. Our customers were quick to notice the comfort and convenience of using seven-meter length cables the charging stations come with and the function of PLUG & GO, as well as the 24/7 technical support.

Station installations, performance, and usage

We have already installed over 2,200 charging points in Ukraine, of which over 700 were installed last year. We are ready to install more as the demand for electric cars goes into a rapid increase.

In our DC charging points, we install AC/DC 12.5 kW power modules developed in the Netherlands. They are extremely reliable and have a minimal breakdown rate. However, they require a specially designed cooling system and very frequent cleaning. So, we designed and developed our own power modules to be installed in both new and older stations in the mid-summer, 2020.

On average, each charging point supplies 150 kW per socket. Today, from our EV-charges we supply around 330,000kW per day.

Our key clients

Auto-E produces charging stations for both commercial and domestic use.

Furthermore, we are about to release the upgraded Superchargers onto the market.

In the UK, we are signing contracts with pubs, restaurants, cafes, and hotels as well as with parking lots and business-centres.

In Ukraine, in addition to these business fields, Auto-E is in partnership with the Ukranian National Police Forces, Ukrpochta, and Kharkov City Council. At the moment, we have installed over 200 of our stations for service near the Ukranian National Police Forces. Ukrpochta, having already bought a few electric vehicles from Auto-E, is about to buy another 200 stations. Around the same amount was ordered by the Kharkov City Council to modernize the city. To clarify, three stations had already been installed in the biggest parks of the city. Currently, our company is negotiating with other big Ukranian City Councils.

Our installation pipeline

As a factory, we have our own engineers to perform the installations of all types of stations.

Capabilities to support a national roll out of EV charging

As a private company, we do not have to support a national roll out of EV-charging.

Our view on the expected growth of Electric Vehicles in the UK

We expect a rapid increase in sales in the EV market in the UK in London and its neighborhoods. Due to the government support of the going-green move, it has now become cheaper to use electric vehicles for most companies. Today, we focus on the power charging hubs’ installation, so all of our customers will be able to fast-charge their cars on a working day. On average, company cars are replaced every three years. So, we expect nearly all businesses in the UK will swap to electric vehicles in the next two years.

Therefore, we work to ensure the amount of stations in the area meets the expected EV growth and thoroughly monitor around 90% of them to be in usage. We are also keen to add more stations or upgrade the power of the existing ones where needed in order to keep up with the growing demand. All of this is under the constant control of our own engineers and analysts.

Our view on charging technology development

We are sure we found the best model for our customers satisfaction:

  • 24/7 technical support,
  • long pre-installed cables,
  • PLUG & GO function
  • Possibility to select colouration.

The technology we use is of our own development and production. And we carefully track the changes within the industry to keep our product always updated. For example, we are very flexible to design, paint, and produce a special charging point for special customers.

We are able to paint our stations and the parking space in green and pink. For hotels and supermarkets, we offer an installation of an LED high-resolution screen IP66 to use it as an advertising point.

From the power supply companies view, we are happy to introduce stations with a night power bank on board. At the moment, we have already installed E-telemetry systems to check their power capacity. Besides, we are in progress development of our charging ‘hub’ which would be able to get power directly from the power grid of 6,000V.

Current requirement for charging speed based on customer dwell time

According to our estimations, the UK market is 60% customers who prefer fast charging and 40% customers who have a home station to charge their cars overnight. An average home station is able to supply 2.5 kW per hour to a car. This means they would need a full twenty-four hours to have their battery fully charged. To reduce the time it takes to charge a car, they have an option to install a specially-designed powerful AC station at their home or finish charging the car on a nearby fast-charging point outside their home.

Our point on the market overview: 80% of the cars will be on fast-charging points. Modern EV cars have a volume of 40-60kW of energy and motor consumption of 15-20kW per 100 miles. This means we have to enable our customers to top their batteries up in 30 minutes up to 50% during their coffee-breaks or lunch-times. Thus, 50 kW power DC supercharging is sufficient for the vehicle during the day. This type of installation is preferable for restaurants, pubs, and supermarkets.

A fast AC charger would feed a car with 6kW per hour. This means it would fully charge a 60kW battery in less than ten hours. This type of installation is preferable for hotels, overnight parking lots, and domestic property with special technical requirements.
