OLEV Grant

OZEV Grant (formerly OLEV Grant): Step by step guide

Do you want to save money when installing an EV charger pat your home? Due to initiatives of the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (formerly, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles), you can easily reduce your installation costs. Just claim for the OZEV Grant (formerly the OLEV Grant).

Basic overview

How much is the grant?

The OZEV funds up to £350 towards the total installation costs per each installation. In other words, when you order EV charger installation services, these services will cost you up to £350 cheaper. If you are eligible, of course (we will touch this aspect a bit later).

However, the grant covers no more than 75% of the charging station installation cost.

How many installations does the grant cover?

The Government set limits for the number of funded EV chargepoint installations. Therefore, you can apply maximum for two installations, provided you are eligible for each of them in separate.

Important details

When you are eligible for the EVHS

First, previously, you did not benefit from the OLEV/OZEV grant scheme.

Second, your car is qualifying. In other words, it is included in the list of approved vehicles. Hence, even if your car is fully electric but is not listed, there is no qualifying ground to apply for the OZEV grant.

Third, regarding the qualifying car, you are its registered keeper. This means you meet one of the following conditions at the moment of installation:

  • Own the car,
  • Ordered the car to buy,
  • Lease the car for at least 6 months,
  • Was assigned to the car or named as its primary user for at least 6 months (for company cars).

Forth, you currently reside in the property with dedicated off-street parking, for which you are going to install your chargepoint. You may either own or rent this property.

Fifth, you install smart home charging station that is approved by the OZEV. To clarify, even if a station you are going to install is smart but it is not listed on the list, there is no qualifying ground to claim against the OZEV grant.

Six, you order installation from an OZEV approved installer.

Note one funded installation goes per one electric vehicle. Thus, if you want to get the grant for two installations, you must have got two qualifying cars.

How to apply for the grant?

You don’t need to apply for the grant personally. Your OZEV approved installer will do this for you. The only thing you need to do is to verify the correctness of the information your installer declared in the grant application form.

Instead of conclusion

With the OZEV grant, you don’t need to pay the full upfront cost of EV charger installation while awaiting a part of it to be refunded. Instead, you benefit with paying the price minus the grant amount due.
