The UK wants to get rid of petrol cars by 2030

In mid-November, the UK released their strategy to decarbonise UK transport by the end of this decade at about 68%. To clarify, the comparison basis for these numbers is the CO2 level of 1990. Moreover, this is only the first major step to commit the UK contribution to a clean and carbon-free environment by 2050.

What is this first step about?

To put it short, new fully petrol and diesel vehicles will not be allowed for sale within the Kingdom. However, this does not affect cars that can ride some distance without emitting carbons to environments. In other words, there will not be a ban on plug-in hybrids or other hybrids. In 2030, you will still be able to purchase these cars.

Note the petrol/diesel vehicle ban is supposed to come into effect only for a brand-new fleet while used cars and vans will be still at a sale. For the time being, at least.

Especially as EV charging infrastructure is already large and is continuously growing. And, of course, you can always buy our EV chargers both for domestic or commercial use.

It is not just the words

The UK Government does not just issue its ban decrees. It takes an active part in helping them to come to the life at minimal pitfalls:

  • First, they heavily support EV charging infrastructure roll-out by providing OLEV grants;
  • Second, they provide a lot of incentives to those drivers who buy low or zero-emission cars and, thus, make the purchase much cheaper.
  • Third, they allocate great budgets on creating new jobs in the zero-emission sector and green technologies.

What will be the next steps?

The next step will be getting rid of all vehicles that pollute environment with their CO2 emissions. To clarify, between 2035 and 2040 many plug-in hybrids will be also banned. The Government plans to allow selling only those cars and vans that have a significant electric range, and, thus, are as environmentally friendly as pure electric ones.

So, it seems it is high time to go green right now!
