EV Charging Plug and Cable Compatible with Toyota
At Auto-E, we manufacture safe charging stations compatible with Toyota Prius (2012-2016) and new Toyota Prius (since 2017).
Toyota Prius (till 2016)
This plug-in hybrid was available from 2012 till 2016. Like many of early plug-in models, it is equipped with a battery of very modest capacity. To clarify, the capacity of the first plug-in cars is only 4.4 kWh. Moreover, its usable capacity is around 3.5 kWh. The car is able to generate a power of up to 90 kW (120 hp). Its electric range is only 15.5 miles.
How to feed the vehicle
Only AC charging is possible here. The maximum input power of the car’s on-board charger is only 2 kWh with a Type 2 port. So, it takes only 1.7 hours to fill the battery from flat to full when using our EV chargers, which are suitable for Toyota Prius (2012-2016).
New Toyota Prius (since 2017)
This PHEV is available since 2017. Though, in 2019 the manufacturer slightly updated its design, its main characteristics stayed unchanged. The car has a battery with a total capacity of 8.8 kWh, of which only 7 kWh is usable. The battery provides a total power of 90 kW (121 hp) and allows the car to ride 25 miles on a fully electric charge.
How to feed the car
Typically, PHEVs don’t support DC charging and this model is not an exception. So, its 3.3-kWh (3.7-kWh in the model specification available till 2019) on-board charger receives only alternating current. To top up the battery with AC, you need to use a charging station that is equipped with a Type 2 cable. By the way, we can provide this cable option for our EV solutions. Thus, our stations are fully compatible with Toyota Prius (from 2017), and you can use them to feed this plug-in hybrid.
