Wall-mounted EV charge point installed at a North London house, illustrating home charger installation in Enfield

Enfield is London's northernmost borough and one of its most varied: Edwardian avenues in Palmers Green and Winchmore Hill, 1930s semis around Southgate and Oakwood, Victorian terraces in Edmonton and the regeneration streets of Ponders End. That is why there is no single "Enfield EV charger installation". A driveway in Grange Park, a front garden off the Hertford Road and a flat above the shops on Green Lanes each need a different approach.

Auto E designs and manufactures its own charging stations at 12 Melcombe Place, NW1, a short drive down the A10 from Enfield Town, and installs them through an authorised partner installer. We also repair chargers of any brand. Here is what we fit across EN1-EN3, N9, N13, N14, N18 and N21, what it costs, and how local parking and planning rules affect the job.

What we install in Enfield

Home wall boxes

Most Enfield houses have a single-phase supply, so a 7 kW wall box is the sensible choice and fills most cars overnight on an off-peak tariff. Where three-phase power exists (larger detached homes, converted commercial premises) we fit our 22 kW EF AC-WW22M at £1,449 ex VAT. Owners with a commando socket in the garage can use a portable EF AC-P7.7M-L1 (£449-499) instead.

Commercial posts and dual units

For offices, workshops, car parks and hotels we install the dual-socket EF AC-W22x2M (2 x 22 kW, £1,649 ex VAT), which serves two vehicles from one feed and links to our management platform for billing and access control.

DC rapid charging

Forecourt, retail-park and fleet operators can order our Charging Complex (£23,000) or Charging Complex 2 (£21,000), before civils and grid connection, with contactless payment as the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023 require.

Enfield property types and what they mean for installation

Driveways and hardstandings. Winchmore Hill, Grange Park, Bush Hill Park and the Southgate semis mostly have off-street parking: wall box on the front or side wall, cable to the consumer unit, about half a day's work.

Terraces with on-street parking. Much of Edmonton, Ponders End and Enfield Lock is terraced, with front gardens and cars parked on the road. A legal hardstanding makes a home installation straightforward. If you park on the road, Enfield Council was the first London borough to trial the Kerbo Charge cross-pavement channel (piloted in 2024 and since opened up more widely); the scheme currently accepts houses, not flats or maisonettes, and from 1 April 2026 the £500 chargepoint grant covers on-street households using an approved cross-pavement solution.

Controlled parking zones. Palmers Green, Southgate and Winchmore Hill are among the areas with CPZs. A permit does not reserve the bay outside your door, so if you cannot count on the same spot, the council's Char.gy lamppost programme (1,000 units, targeting a shared charger within a five-minute walk of every home) may suit you better than a private wall box.

Conservation areas. Enfield has 22, including Enfield Town, Gentleman's Row, Forty Hill, Winchmore Hill and Bush Hill Park, several with Article 4 directions. A wall box on a rear or side wall is rarely an issue; on a listed building or street-facing facade we position it discreetly and suggest checking with Enfield planning first.

Flats and managed blocks. Newer developments in Enfield Town and Ponders End tend to have allocated parking, which suits shared communal chargers; landlords can claim the £500 grant on up to 200 sockets.

Every job gets a fixed quote after a free site survey. An old fuse board or earthing that needs an earth rod is the usual reason a job moves to the upper band, and we spot that at survey, not on the day.

Grants in 2026

  • EV chargepoint grant: £500 per socket from 1 April 2026. Enfield is unusual in that all four routes are open here - renters, flat owners, landlords (up to 200 sockets) and, thanks to the Kerbo Charge scheme, houses that park on the street.
  • Workplace Charging Scheme: £500 per socket, up to 40 sockets and 75% of costs, extended to March 2027; state schools get £2,000 per socket on applications after 1 April 2026. See our WCS 2026 guide.
  • Capital allowances: 100% first-year allowances on charge point equipment.

FAQ

I live in a Palmers Green terrace and park on the street. Can I get a home charger?

Only if you can charge from your own property. Enfield's cross-pavement channel scheme lets houses run a cable safely across the footway, and the £500 grant now applies. Otherwise the council's lamppost chargers are the practical route.

Do I need planning permission in a conservation area such as Winchmore Hill or Forty Hill?

Usually not for a wall box on a side or rear wall, but Article 4 directions apply in several Enfield conservation areas and listed buildings always need consent. We flag this at survey stage.

How much cheaper is home charging than the public network in Enfield?

Considerably: off-peak home tariffs run 7-10p/kWh at 5% VAT against around 80p/kWh for public rapids at 20% VAT. Our cost comparison has the workings.

Can you repair a charger another company installed?

Yes, home and commercial units of any brand, across Enfield.
